Safety Heroes - Lesson Plan Bundle (4 Lesson Plans)

We can all play a role in creating safe spaces and making smart decisions that protect ourselves and others. In this unit, students will learn the answers to some key questions regarding their safety in their everyday circumstances, online, and in their relationships by discussing topics like preventable hazards, media literacy, and bullying.

Grades level: 6-8

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will: 

• Recognize that some situations can be unsafe or hazardous.
• Identify the things that make a situation unsafe or hazardous.
• Demonstrate the understanding of how to avoid situations that could be unsafe or hazardous.
• Recognize that there are some people that are more helpful in a crisis situation than others.
• Identify the attributes that make someone helpful to go to in a crisis situation.
• Demonstrate an understanding of who is best to go to for help in a time of crisis.
• Recognize that they can not trust everything they read on the internet.
• Identify ways they can know if a website is trustworthy or not.
• Demonstrate the ability to assess a website's trustworthiness
• Recognize that bullying has lasting negative effects on people.
• Identify ways to stop or prevent someone from being bullied.
• Demonstrate the value of being a part of the solution to bullying.
