Sometimes, our feelings can be overwhelming and it can be hard to express what’s going on inside of us. With the help of the book My Body Sends A Signal, this lesson teaches students how to understand and regulate their emotions. Students will learn to recognize the signals their body sends out when feelings arise.  

Grade level: K - 2

Prep time: 10 min

Lesson Duration: 35 min + Optional Extension Activity (15 min)

Learning Outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Recognize that their body sends them signals about how they are feeling.
  • Identify what feeling connects with the signals their bodies send.
  • Demonstrate the understanding of tools they can use to regulate their feelings

Lesson includes:

  • Activate, Acquire, and Apply Activities     
  • Crayons or Pencil Crayons

Reading Comprehension Questions include:

  • What feelings did the kid in the story feel?
  • After the kid in the story got angry he felt ashamed. What were some of the ideas his grandma gave him to help him stay in control of his big feelings?
