Taste preferences and hunger cues should guide when and how much we eat. In this lesson, students will be taught how to eat mindfully, using the principles of intuitive eating. Students will discuss what it means to eat when they’re hungry, eat what their bodies want to eat, consciously enjoy every bite, and stop when they’re full. 

Grade level: 3 - 5

Prep time: 10 min

Lesson Duration: 35 min + Optional Extension Activity (10 min)

Learning Outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Recognize their hunger and fullness cues 
  • Identify how to eat mindfully by using their sense of sight, smell, feel, and taste. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to apply these strategies to help them pursue their healthy-living goals.

  • Have you ever eaten something the way the character in our story did?
