Overview

Indigenous topics are important to explore, and we believe everyone benefits when these conversations are met with curiosity and openness. Through the power of storytelling, this series shares Indigenous practices and encourages students to see their own culture and the world through a wider, more meaningful lens.

Each lesson plan includes a 5 minute video on the topic.

Grades level: 9-12

Lesson Plan Durations: 45-60 min each

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will learn: 

  • Identify key Indigenous contributions in agriculture, science / medicine and sports, and explain their significance in shaping modern society.

  • Identify the ways Indigenous Canadians express identity and culture through visual, performance, and literary arts.

  • Demonstrate respect for oral traditions in Indigenous cultures and identify ways to honor and engage with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

  • Reflect meaningfully on their personal or family stories.

  • Discuss and reflect on reconciliation, with understanding and respect.
