Suicide/suicidal ideation is a heavy topic, but it’s so important to discuss and raise awareness about. This lesson goes through and describes warning signs to look for when someone may be having thoughts of suicide and looks at how to talk to someone who is suicidal.

Grade level: 9-12

Lesson duration: 50 min

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Become more aware of the warning signs that someone is thinking about suicide and understand what to do when they notice these signs.
  • Feel more equipped to support someone struggling with suicidal thoughts.
  • Be reminded of their unconditional value.

  • Workshop video and corresponding Follow Along Sheet (printable)
  • Core Lesson and Reinforcement Activities
  • Reflection and discussion questions such as:
    • What do you think is a common error that we may make when interacting with someone who is suicidal?
    • What does it look like for me to proactively take care of my mental health?
