When we compare ourselves to others it is easy to feel bad about ourselves. In this lesson, students will explore their culture's messages about beauty, worth, and body image. Students will then learn ways to combat these potentially negative messages. 

Grade level: K - 2

Prep time: 10 min

Lesson Duration: 35 min + Optional Extension Activity (10 min)

Learning Outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Recognize what messages their culture and the media are sending them about body image.
  • Identify and explore ways to combat these potentially negative messages from culture and the media.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to truly accept themselves as they are right now.

Lesson includes:

  • Create A New Character (Printable)

Reading Comprehension Questions include:

  • What were some of the features that made each character unique?
  • Which character in the story did you connect to the most? Why?
