When we fall down and hurt ourselves, the first thing we do is try to address our immediate injuries. The same thing is true when dealing with setbacks. In this episode, we explore healthy ways we can cope with failure while embracing our emotions throughout the process.

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Learn practical ways to cope with failure, and the stress and anxiety that often come with it, including diaphragmatic breathing techniques.
  • Identify and respond to different versions of negative thinking and counter them with positive self-talk.
  •  Explore what ways of coping are most helpful to them and consider which ones they want to try next time they are stressed.

Lesson includes:

  • 10 minute workshop video 
  • “Square Breathing” worksheet (Printable) and “My Game Plan” worksheet (Printable)
  • Warm-up, Core Lesson, and Reinforcement Activities
  • Reflection and discussion questions such as:
    • Out of the three identified types of negative self-talk - personal blame, magnifying the negative, and catastrophizing scenarios - which do you tend to do most? 
    • What are some ways that you can counter your negative self-talk?
