Noticing and accepting our emotions is the first step to responding appropriately to them. In this lesson, students will practice recognizing a variety of different emotions, identify when they have felt different emotions, and represent different emotions with drawings.
Grade level: K - 2
Prep time: 10 min
Lesson Duration: 30 min + Optional Extension Activities (30 min)
Learning Outcomes:
It is expected that students will:
- Recognize emotions on other people’s faces
- Identify times when they’ve experienced different emotions
- Represent various emotions with face drawing
Lesson includes:

Discussion Questions include:
- Do you think everyone feels the same emotions all the time or could we feel different emotions at the same time? Explain your thinking.
- Are there any bad emotions? Why/why not?
- Why do you think it is important to be able to identify our emotions?

- Aluminum foil pie plates (one per student)
- Sand or shaving cream
- Cut out faces from magazines (Optional)
- Poster paper for collages (Optional)
- The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas (Optional)
