Healthy food provides us with enjoyment, comfort, and energy; however, our relationship with food impacts what, how, and why we eat. Unhealthy food impacts not only our physical health but our mental health as well. In this unit students will learn how to eat a variety of healthful foods to satisfy their hunger, nurture their mental well-being, help their bodies grow, and celebrate their culture and community.

Learning outcomes:
It is expected that students will:
- Recognize their hunger and fullness cues
- Identify how to eat mindfully by using their sense of sight, smell, feel, and taste.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to apply these strategies to help them pursue their healthy-living goals.
- Recognize that eating a variety of healthy foods gives them the energy to grow and learn.
- Identify and explore a variety of healthy foods and describe how they contribute to their health.
- Demonstrate an understanding of which foods fuel them and which foods don’t.
- Recognize that they have the power to improve their mood, thinking, and ability to learn by what they put in their mouth
- Identify what foods help them become better people and what foods prevent them from achieving their full potential.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between healthy eating to overall health and well-being.
- Recognize that foods are an integral part of celebrations and community gatherings
- Identify foods that are a part of their family traditions and culture
- Demonstrate an understanding of how food provides them with enjoyment, comfort, energy, and community
