Lesson Plan 4: The Gift of Empathy

Other people’s feelings can have an effect on our own feelings. When we can share the feelings of someone else we experience empathy. This lesson teaches students about empathy and how to recognize and handle when other people’s feelings are impacting their own.

Grade level: 3 - 5

It is expected that students will:

• Recognize that other people's feelings affect their feelings.
• Identify ways that other people’s feelings affect their feelings.
• Demonstrate the ability to notice when other people’s feelings are affecting their feelings.
