Anxiety may be more common than ever, but it’s still hard to know how to cope with it. In this lesson, we learn about what we can do to calm down when we find ourselves feeling anxious.

Grade level: 9-12

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Understand why anxiety can make us feel trapped and learn what we can do when that happens.
  • Identify and practice some helpful ways of coping with anxiety such as exercise and intentional breathing.
  • Consider how to empathetically support someone struggling with anxiety while also taking care of themselves.

  • Workshop video and corresponding Follow Along Sheet
  • Printable “Mental Detective” Worksheets
  • Warm-up, Core Lesson, and Reinforcement Activities
  • Reflection and discussion questions such as:
    • What are some stereotypes around anxiety and dealing with it? Are these true or untrue?
    • What is the connection between our physical health and our mental health?
