Diversity should be celebrated, but people’s differences can often lead to separation rather than an opportunity for further learning and connection. In this lesson, students will explore their own background and personal experiences that have shaped who they are and simultaneously learn to value and understand those with different stories than their own.

Lesson Duration: 40 min + Optional Extension Activity (20 min)

Learning Outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Recognize that life should be respected despite diversity
  • Identify what diversity means and how we can celebrate it
  • Demonstrate an understanding of our responsibility to respect and protect people’s differences
