Giving direction is probably one of the first things to come to mind when thinking about leadership. In this episode, we talk about how to give direction in a way that supports and empowers the team you are leading by knowing your team members, communicating clearly, and owning your authority with kindness.

  • Know and implement the five key pieces of giving direction to a team.
  • Acknowledge when they make mistakes in the leadership role and own up to their responsibilities

  • Workshop video and corresponding Follow Along Sheet (printable)
  • Warm-up, Core Lesson, and Reinforcement Activities
  • Reflection and discussion questions such as:
    • What are some ways you can grow in your ability to give direction?
    • If you already are an assertive person, what are some ways you can grow in how you take other people’s ideas, concerns, and preferences into account?

Materials required (not included):

  • Screen & speakers for viewing video
  • 2 - 3 long, light rods or sticks (e.g. broomsticks, hockey sticks)
  • Paper, pencils, whiteboard
