We are our best selves when our brains and bodies are working together to stay healthy. In order to keep our brains and bodies healthy it is important that we understand our emotions, use positive self-talk, know how to handle worries and identify things that make us feel happy and loved.

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will: 

  • Recognize emotions on other people’s faces
  • Identify times when they’ve experienced different emotions
  • Represent various emotions with face drawings
  • Make connections between how it feels to be spoken to kindly vs unkindly
  • Develop an understanding of what a positive affirmation is
  • Identify some kind things that they can say to themselves to keep their minds healthy and happy
  • Learn some new breathing techniques to calm their bodies
  • Identify one thing that causes them to worry
  • Identify one strategy they can use to calm a worry
  • Recognize that there are different ways to give and receive love
  • Understand that not everyone likes the same things
  • Identify 2-3 things that help them to feel loved

  • Aluminum foil pie plates (one per student)
  • Sand or shaving cream
  • Cut out faces from magazines (Optional)
  • Poster paper for collages (Optional)

Be Kind to Your Mind

  • Red and green apple (see instructions below)
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Screen & speakers for viewing video
  • String and letter beads for bracelets (Optional)
