Many of us hear the word "leader" and immediately think it doesn't apply to us.  We feel we need to have a certain personality type or meet certain prerequisites, but when we dig deeper we find out that this isn't true. In fact, each person is fully capable of being a leader and being a good one at that. In this series, we explore what it means to be a leader who can make a difference in today's world.

Each lesson plan includes a 5 minute video on the topic.

Learning outcomes:

It is expected that students will learn: 

  • What it means to be a leader, starting with the fact that everyone can be one.
  • A deeper understanding of the most important traits and skills of good leaders, including authenticity, humility, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.
  • Practical advice on how to identify their motivation and mindset within their leadership roles.
  • How to successfully navigate conflict, solve problems, and clearly communicate and work together with a diverse group of people.
  • Understanding leadership as a responsibility that is primarily about building trust and serving others.

Authenticity

  • Poster paper, scissors, glue sticks, and magazines that can be cut up

  • 2 - 3 long, light rods or sticks (e.g. broomsticks, hockey sticks)
