Mental health can sometimes be considered a ‘taboo’ topic, but it is an important part of all of our lives and therefore it is important to talk about openly. In this lesson, students will discuss ways of starting the conversation and research resources to support those dealing with mental illnesses.

Grade level: 6 - 8

Prep time: 15 min

Lesson Duration: 50 min + Optional Extension Activities (30 min)

Learning Outcomes:

It is expected that students will:

  • Identify two mental health advocates who have openly spoken about their mental health
  • Co-create ways to begin the conversation about mental health
  • Research mental health resources that could be helpful for individuals dealing with a given mental illness

Lesson includes:
